French Classes – False Beginners
As most people in the UK have at least a little French, the entry level class is in fact false beginner level. Although everything is covered from scratch just like the beginners Italian class, there are a lot of areas that students don’t need to spend so much time on as they remember bits and pieces from school so the pace is very slightly quicker than for the Italian beginners class. Having said that, nothing is brushed over!
We start with the BBC Talk French book 1 before progressing to book 2 both of which come complete with audio CDs for practice at home. This course covers everything you’d need to get by on a holiday in a French-speaking country. The ‘Talk French’ textbooks are conveniently sized to slip into hand luggage so they can be kept handy if you take them on holiday with you.
This beginners French course uses the BBC ‘Talk French’ textbooks and runs for one year (approximately six 6-week terms)

The talk French books can be bought as a package which includes a grammar book. They can also be bought separately.

French Classes – Intermediate
The beginners French course then follows on to French level 2. We use ‘Talk French 2′ for the level two courses. The level 2 course takes two terms to complete and covers similar topics to level one but goes into greater detail, focusing more on grammar.

The ‘Grammaire Progressive’ series of books are an excellent resource for practising grammar. They come with explanations and practice exercises at five different levels from A1 to C2. They are written entirely in French to allow the student further immersion in the language

GRAMMAIRE PROGRESSIVE DU FRANÇAIS – INTERMEDIAIRE
Collins produce two useful grammar books one with grammar and exercises and one with Grammar, verbs and vocabulary. It is not recommended to buy both of these books as one is enough. These books are published in the UK and have explanations in English for those not brave enough to try the Grammaire Progressive books.
